Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, flatbeds, ensuring compliance with all DOT and FMCSA regulations.
- Plan and follow optimized routes using GPS navigation to meet delivery schedules efficiently.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment, ensuring proper handling of freight including hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
- Transport various types of Metal Coil freight such as horizontal, vertical and skidded loads, serving the automotive and bevrage supply chains.
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after trips to ensure safety standards are met; report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, deliveries, and cargo documentation in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route updates, delivery statuses, or any unforeseen issues during transit.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the type of vehicle operated (e.g., Hazmat, Tanker).
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving and securements, specifically experience with metal coils.
- Knowledge of truck loading and unloading procedures; experience with freight handling equipment like forklifts is a plus.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route planning for over-the-road (OTR) driving routes.
- Ability to handle manual transmission trucks confidently; experience with manual handling is essential.
- Strong adherence to FMCSA and DOT regulations regarding hours of service, safety protocols, and cargo security.
- Physical ability to load/unload freight and perform manual handling tasks safely.
