Responsibilities & Duties
Provide strategic leadership and oversight of nursing excellence initiatives aligned with Magnet Sources of Evidence: Transformational Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice, New Knowledge/Innovation, and Empirical Outcomes.
Lead and coordinate organizational readiness efforts for Magnet designation and re-designation, ensuring compliance with ANCC standards.
Serve as the central integrator for shared governance, evidence-based practice (EBP), nursing research, and professional development programs.
Standardize nursing excellence processes, frameworks, and documentation across departments to ensure consistency, rigor, and sustainability.
Partner with nursing and interdisciplinary leaders to embed evidence-based, patient-centered care into daily clinical operations.
Oversee and evaluate performance related to nursing-sensitive quality indicators (e.g., NDNQI), driving improvements in patient outcomes.
Analyze data and trends to identify performance gaps, implement improvement strategies, and demonstrate measurable outcomes.
Strengthen nurse engagement, leadership development, and professional growth through structured programs and shared governance models.
Promote a culture of inquiry, innovation, and continuous improvement within the nursing workforce.
Lead and support the development, implementation, and dissemination of evidence-based practice and nursing research initiatives.
Act as subject matter expert on Magnet standards and nursing excellence, providing guidance, coaching, and consultation to leaders and staff.
Ensure survey readiness by maintaining robust documentation and translating frontline nursing excellence into Magnet-ready evidence.
Collaborate with system and site leadership to align nursing excellence initiatives with organizational priorities, including quality, safety, and equity goals.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and,
2. A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
4. Successfully submitted Pathway to Excellence and/or Magnet Application.
