Maintenance Technician/Licensed Tradesperson
Austin Preparatory School, located in Reading, Massachusetts, is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced professional to serve as a Maintenance Technician / Licensed Tradesperson. Founded in 1961, Austin Prep is an independent, co-educational Catholic school rooted in the Augustinian tradition. Serving approximately 700 students in grades 6–12, Austin Prep is supported by a dedicated community of 75 faculty members and a strong network of alumni, families, and friends who share a commitment to the school’s mission and future.
Reporting to the Director of Facilities, this position plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming campus for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Maintenance Technician / Licensed Tradesperson will perform a wide range of skilled maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance activities across campus buildings, systems, and equipment.
As a member of the Facilities Department, this position is expected to contribute to the full range of departmental responsibilities necessary to support the daily operation of the school and campus. While the successful candidate will bring specialized expertise in a licensed or skilled trade, the position is not limited to work within that trade. All members of the Facilities team are expected to work collaboratively and assist with general facilities operations and other departmental needs as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
Some responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving facility and building-system issues, completing general and skilled maintenance and repairs, performing preventative maintenance, responding to routine and emergency service needs, maintaining appropriate service and maintenance records, and collaborating with Facilities staff and outside contractors to ensure the safe and reliable operation of campus facilities.
Requirements:

Valid professional trade license or certification in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or another applicable building trade

10+ years of relevant trade and maintenance experience, preferably in a commercial, educational, or institutional setting.

ability to troubleshoot building systems, work independently and collaboratively, prioritize multiple needs, and communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and members of the school community.

This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, using appropriate tools and equipment, and working in a variety of indoor and outdoor campus environments.

Requires schedule flexibility based on school operations, special events, emergencies, and other campus needs.
