Other primary duties include, but are not limited to, maintenance of City property to include the operation of light to heavy duty equipment, grounds maintenance of City parks and facilities (i.e. disposing of trash and debris as needed, removing right-of-way overgrowth, planting vegetation), and performing basic plumbing repairs on restrooms and water fountains. Position provides support in other Parks and Recreation functions as needed. Must be able to perform as an individual or as a member of a team working within City of Bastrop parks, green spaces, and/or City owned properties and facilities. Employees in this class are distinguished from that of Maintenance Worker by the ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform proper irrigation and minor plumbing repairs, in addition to operating heavy equipment when needed. Performs related work as directed.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Primary Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains and repairs all irrigation systems in City parks, facilities, and beautification areas. Services, maintains, and programs a variety of irrigation controllers including, but not limited to, mechanical, solar battery, digital and radio/computer-controlled systems.Maintains daily records for irrigation as needed.Performs basic plumbing repairs on restrooms and water fountains located in city parks.Performs grounds maintenance, i.e., planting, pruning, removing trees and shrubs, picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, replenishing restroom supplies, mowing, weeding, trimming, edging, blowing, pruning, planting, sodding, sawing, digging holes and trench lines as needed.Inspects assigned tools and equipment for safe and efficient operating condition prior to and after use.Performs regular and preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on assigned tools equipment.Performs assigned duties for a variety of City properties, i.e., athletic fields, parks, rights-of-way, City facility grounds, vacant lots.Utilizes various manual, gas and handheld electrical tools and heavy to light duty equipment, i.e., chain saws, weed eaters, woodchippers, pressure washer, hammers, shovels, tractors, shredders, zero turn mowers, trucks, etc.Cleans and/or clears debris and refuse from City properties regularly.Attends safety meetings according to department policy.Follows oral and written directions.Provides support for other Parks and Recreation functions as needed, such as special events.Performs related work as directed.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees and the public.Required to remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or man-made disaster, as directed by the City Manager.Required to work assigned on-call duty and overtime as needed.Must be able to work holidays, weekends, or after hours for special events, meetings or during emergency situations as required.Ability to understand and receive both oral and written instructions.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees and the public.Provides support to other Parks and Recreation functions as needed such as special events.Performs related work as directed.Other Duties: Paints, cleans, performs maintenance and repairs on city properties, structures, and facilities, i.e., playground equipment, fences, buildings, and structures.May operate medium to heavy duty equipment upon demonstrating essential skill levels for safe and effective operation of assigned equipment.Provides weekly reports to Parks Crew Leader.Provide guidance and instructions to Maintenance Workers, when applicable.Provides support to other City department functions as needed, i.e., installation of water and wastewater lines, manhole covers, street and drainage repair.Special Requirements: Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential. Typical schedule is Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Leave scheduled should be managed so as to not interfere with ability to accomplish tasks, including special projects and assignments with deadlines.Required to remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or man-made disaster, as directed by the City Manager.Required to work assigned on-call duty and overtime as needed.Must be able to work holidays, weekends, or after hours for special events, meetings or during emergency situations as required.
