Summary
This position is responsible for the design and overall project coordination of OEM equipment and systems and will report directly to the Engineering Manager. The position requires the ability to manage multiple projects from beginning to end, producing a high-quality product within budget, time and technical/regulatory scope requirements.
Responsibilities
1) Read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
2) Develop the mechanical design of products using computer assisted design (CAD)
3) Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet project scope requirements, within budget and meeting project deadlines.
4) Perform analytical calculations and/or FEA simulations to support machine element designs and metal forming process requirements.
5) Evaluate designs for manufacturability and cost control.
6) Accurately apply GD&T to properly specify mechanical component fit and alignment precision.
7) Create Drawing, BOM and Operator Manual documentation packages and manage the Release and Change Order processes.
8) Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
9) Conduct research to test or analyze the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components or systems.
10) Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and make recommendations to rectify situation.
11) Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification.
12) Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with project specifications.
13) Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
Background/Qualifications
1) BSME or BSMET degree preferred. Associates degree in related field or certification in mechanical design technology required as a minimum.
2) 3-6 years of successful experience as a Design or Mechanical Engineer with strong background in industrial automated machinery systems.
3) Specific experience in the metal forming industry with application of pneumatics, hydraulics, lubrication and control systems highly desired.
4) Strong analytical/problem solving skills, knowledge of material selection, and design for manufacturability and design for assembly skills.
5) Must be able to make strength calculations using the finite element method.
6) Proficiency with 2D/3D Design Software; AutoCAD Mechanical and SolidWorks preferred.
7) High integrity, solid work ethic, energetic team player, willing to help and take the
initiative to get things done.
8) Excellent PC skills must be proficient in MS Office, Outlook.
9) Excellent written and oral communication skills.
10) Willing to travel, domestic and international, and work irregular hours when needed.
