Position: Day Shift / Lunch Line Cook & Prep
Schedule: Monday – Friday (Consistent daytime hours, absolutely no late nights, no weekends)
Hours: 30+ hours per week
About the Job:
Are you an experienced cook who loves the kitchen but hates the brutal restaurant hours? The Grill at 1951 is expanding to launch a premium, high-energy weekday lunch program, and we are looking for two competent, steady line cooks to own the daytime shift.
You will work a highly desirable Monday through Friday day schedule—giving you your nights and weekends back completely. You will work directly under our executive chef, executing high-quality, upscale casual lunch classics, and assisting with essential evening prep work.
What You’ll Be Making:
Our dynamic new lunch menu features clean, beautifully executed classics, including:
- Upscale Sandwiches & Paninis: Cuban paninis on pressed NYC baguettes, classic Reubens, Philly cheesesteaks with sliced tenderloin, and an 8 oz. Wagyu burger.
- Fresh Seafood & Entrées: Tempura Haddock fish & chips, fresh Atlantic Haddock, baked Bakka Salmon from the Faroe Islands, and petite filet mignons.
- Soups & Salads: New England seafood chowder, fresh Mediterranean bowls, and classic chef salads.
- Plus, you'll help run our fun, weekly Monday "Checkmate Café" Chess & Chow Club!
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up, stock, and execute the lunch line efficiently during service.
- Maintain impeccable consistency, presentation, and strict portion control.
- Pivot seamlessly after the lunch rush to assist with evening dinner prep work.
- Keep a clean, sanitary, and highly organized workspace.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: Proven experience as a line cook, prep cook, or short-order cook in a fast-paced, high-quality kitchen environment.
- Reliability: You show up on time, take pride in your station, and bring a positive, "can-do" team attitude.
- Skill: Solid knife skills, comfort with flat-tops and fryers, and the ability to read and execute tickets quickly.
- Efficiency: Ability to work independently during lunch and collaboratively with the back-of-house dinner team during prep windows.
