Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses and other authorized vehicles following designated routes and schedules.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle’s mechanical safety and readiness before each trip.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students during transportation by practicing effective behavior management and child care techniques.
- Communicate clearly with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers to coordinate routes and address any issues promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized bus environment that promotes comfort and safety for all passengers.
- Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies to uphold a high standard of service.
- Respond professionally to emergencies or incidents on the road by following established protocols and communicating with emergency responders if needed.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a school bus and passenger and air break endorsement or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or similar roles involving transportation of children or passengers.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for working with diverse communities.
- Knowledge of vehicle mechanics and basic maintenance to identify potential issues early.
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings, demonstrating patience and excellent behavior management skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills to foster positive interactions with students, parents, and school staff.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly while maintaining focus on safety.
- Additional qualifications such as paratransit experience or senior care knowledge are beneficial but not required.
