The Philadelphia Research and Education Foundation (PREF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that supports the Philadelphia VA (Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center). Our mission is to lead the nation in advancing Veterans’ health and well-being through research and education.
PREF is hiring an experienced research nurse to support this project by facilitating the enrollment of eligible patients in clinical trials and assisting in the opening of new trials. The research nurse will be a PREF employee, supervised by the CMCVAMC Principal Investigator. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of a clinical research program while developing new skills in a dynamic research environment.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Clinical Research Support:
- Support the conduct of both interventional and non-interventional clinical research conducted at CMCVAMC.
- Collaborate with sponsor entities and the CMCVAMC regulatory team on study activation and management.
- Responsible for study start-up activities, screening/enrollment, scheduling of study-related visits, data collection, safety reporting, and study close-out activities.
- Screen Veterans across VISN 4 (PA/DE) VA System for clinical trial eligibility.
- Assist with and handle start-up for the opening of a variety of clinical trials including NIH trials, industry sponsored trials, decentralized trials, pragmatic trials, and network wide studies.
- Contribute to feasibility assessment for clinical trials including assisting in the assessment and development of resources at other VA sites in VISN 4.
- Coordinate execution of clinical trials with VISN 4 VA site providers.
- Navigate patients through the process of traveling to CMCVAMC from VISN 4 VA sites for study opportunities.
- Assist with and perform research telehealth visits with patients.
- Assist with protocol development as needed.
- Build infrastructure and help develop the program in collaboration with the team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Coordination of patient care:
- Ensure that patients’ care is coordinated, including visits for interventional and non-interventional care as well as any specialized tests such as imaging or biopsies.
- Ensure that all relevant results, as well as images and biopsies, are available for review.
Education and Training:
- Participate in formalized training if needed, including coursework and case studies.
- Train new research staff on research protocols.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate closely with local clinical and research teams, and with providers and research teams at other VA locations across VISN 4.
- Facilitate and participate in clinical meetings and respond to data discrepancies or monitoring/audit findings.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with license to practice.
- 2- 3 years of clinical research experience required. Experience in a multi-modality clinical trials group or research team is a plus.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Proven ability to learn and apply new concepts, work collaboratively, organize and prioritize tasks, and problem-solve effectively. Must be detail oriented.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
