The Budtender is responsible for providing a welcoming, knowledgeable, and efficient customer experience while supporting the daily operations of the dispensary. This role requires strong sales ability, product knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to following all company policies and cannabis compliance requirements.
Budtenders are expected to actively engage customers, understand their needs, make thoughtful product recommendations, and contribute to the store’s sales goals. They must also accurately process transactions, maintain a clean and organized sales floor, and work cooperatively with leads, management, and other team members.

Greet customers in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner.

Ask questions to understand each customer’s needs, preferences, experience level, and budget.

Provide accurate information about cannabis products, including product types, effects, potency, ingredients, and methods of consumption.

Use product knowledge and approved sales strategies to recommend appropriate products, promote current specials, and increase average transaction value without creating a high-pressure sales experience.

Accurately process cash, cashless ATM, debit, and other approved transactions through the point-of-sale system.

Verify customer identification and eligibility before completing any sale.

Follow all company policies, operating procedures, and state and local cannabis regulations.

Maintain accurate cash drawers and immediately report transaction errors, shortages, overages, or payment discrepancies.

Assist with opening and closing tasks as assigned, including drawer counts, cleaning, restocking, and shift documentation.

Maintain cleanliness, organization, and merchandising standards throughout the sales floor, counters, displays, and customer areas.

Restock products and supplies and notify a lead or manager when inventory is low, missing, mislabeled, or damaged.

Check product labels, pricing, promotions, and displays for accuracy.

Support customer flow during busy periods and assist teammates as needed.

Resolve routine customer questions professionally and refer complaints, compliance issues, or unusual situations to a Lead Budtender or manager.

Participate in product education, vendor training, team meetings, and ongoing sales coaching.

Stay informed about new products, promotions, store priorities, and daily sales goals.

Complete assigned cleaning, organizing, restocking, and operational tasks during slower periods.

Communicate clearly with leads and management regarding customer concerns, inventory issues, transaction discrepancies, or operational needs.

Protect customer privacy, company information, inventory, and store assets.

Previous retail, hospitality, customer service, or sales experience preferred.

Cannabis retail experience is preferred but not required.

Prior experience working with sales goals, upselling, cross-selling, or customer recommendations is strongly preferred.

Strong interest in cannabis products and a willingness to continuously develop product knowledge.

Ability to learn and follow cannabis regulations, company policies, and detailed operating procedures.

Basic math skills, including calculating change, discounts, percentages, and transaction totals.

Comfortable handling cash and learning point-of-sale and cashless payment systems.

Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
