PRN Laboratory Assistant
Job Summary
Healix Diagnostics is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented PRN Laboratory Assistant to support daily laboratory operations throughout Southeastern Idaho. This position is responsible for collecting patient specimens, transporting specimens to the laboratory, assisting with specimen processing, and performing other laboratory support duties as assigned. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, and committed to maintaining specimen integrity while providing excellent service to our healthcare partners and patients.
Responsibilities
- Collect laboratory specimens from patients and designated collection sites according to established procedures.
- Safely transport specimens from healthcare facilities and collection sites to the laboratory while maintaining required storage and temperature conditions.
- Receive, verify, label, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
- Assist laboratory personnel with specimen accessioning, organization, and other pre-analytical laboratory tasks.
- Maintain accurate specimen documentation, transportation logs, and chain of custody records.
- Ensure all specimens are handled in accordance with laboratory quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Follow all laboratory safety, infection control, HIPAA, and confidentiality policies.
- Maintain reliable communication with laboratory staff and healthcare facilities regarding specimen status and collection needs.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns.
- Assist with laboratory inventory, stocking supplies, environmental cleaning, and other general laboratory support duties as assigned.
- Provide professional and courteous service to patients, providers, and healthcare partners.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple responsibilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and frequently enter and exit a vehicle throughout the workday.
Preferred
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory, specimen collection, medical assisting, or healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with laboratory specimen handling and transportation requirements.
- Experience with basic laboratory support or accessioning duties.
Training
Comprehensive training will be provided in specimen collection, specimen handling, laboratory workflows, and Healix Diagnostics policies and procedures.
Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
