Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing and arranging dental instruments, ensuring adherence to infection prevention management and dental sterilization procedures.
- Assist dentists during various procedures including general dentistry, endodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry with chairside assisting and four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Take and develop dental x-ray images using advanced medical imaging equipment such as 3D scanners and dental x-ray machines, following proper aseptic technique.
- Collect vital signs and medical history information from patients to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Manage electronic health records using EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic to ensure accurate medical documentation and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and explain dental terminology clearly to foster understanding and comfort.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist, verifying insurance details, and processing medical coding for billing purposes.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside support, instrument processing, and infection control protocols.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Experience with EMR systems such as Open Dental for managing medical records efficiently.
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry procedures and working with children in a compassionate manner.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other clinical tools safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control standards including aseptic technique and infection prevention management.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members like dental receptionists and other healthcare professionals while providing outstanding patient care.
