This position assures availability of equipment and supplies for surgical procedures; exhibits skills to competently scrub and assist for surgical procedures; and performs other duties as assigned by the RN. This job demonstrates action consistent with the facilities “Expectations” as duties are performed on a daily basis.
Schedule - Monday-Friday; NO call, NO weekends, NO holidays required
Education
Required - High school graduate or equivalent.
Required - Graduate from accepted course in Surgical Technology. Certification preferred.
Work Experience
Preferred - 2+ years relevant experience
Certifications
Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Preferred - Certification in Surgical Technology
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Knowledge in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques
Job Duties
- Uses the principles of aseptic technique when fulfilling the duties of surgical scrub.
- Maintains knowledge of medications and surgical instruments used on the surgical field.
- Maintains knowledge of and skill in use of emergency equipment and procedures.
- Organizes activities and supplies based on surgery schedule and daily needs of the department.
- Competently cares for and provides services to patients/customers in specific relations to their age and developmental stage with supervision of the staff nurse.
- Communicates information pertaining to patient care needs to patients, family members and co-workers, as needed.
- Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
