- Previous leadership and managerial experience helpful. Bachelor's degree preferred.

- Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
- Thorough knowledge of horsemanship and equine care and training. Strong skills in horse handling, desensitizing and fitness.
Requirements:
- Minimum 40 hours a week required Monday-Friday. Some Saturdays are required. Hours vary based on barn and programming needs. Flexible scheduling with prior approval by the Executive Director.

- Obtain or working towards (Certified Horsemanship Association) CHA Instructor Certification
- 2 weeks paid vacation after 6 months of employment in good standing.
Primary Job Duties:
- Oversee the care of all horses. Routine medical care:teeth floating,de-worming,vaccinations etc
- Schedule and manage the horses hoof care regularly and monitor needs of the horses,working closely with the farrier to address any special needs and changes that will promote the horse's soundness.
- Manage all emergency and routine medical visits and the after care of any horses. In the event of an illness or accident,have adequately trained personnel to fill in in the event of absence.
- Manage the horses daily turn out. Making sure aIl horses are turned out daily in herds that are suitable and safe.
- Manage and ensure safety in all paddocks, pastures and stall rotation,ensuring safety of fencing,gates, and pasture dragging as needed along with removal of any hazardous materials in paddocks, pastures and stalls.
- Order quality hay and feed for all horses. Ensure hay is stored safely in the designated area. Work closely with Discovery Riders veterinarian and horsecare professionals to manage the herds nutritional needs so all can perform well in the program.
- Keep records of all barn/equine expenses and inform the Executive Director of budgetary needs.
- Maintain current records for all horses. Records include veterinary, farrier, exercise etc.
- Oversee barn staff/volunteers. Manage their task list, making sure they are performing their duties in accordance with the policies and procedures of Discovery Riders. Communicate with staff and volunteers regularly, informing them of any special changes or duties of the day.
- Manage quarterly and seasonal barn items including but not limited to 1st aid checks, saddle fits and quarterly tack checks.
- Assist the instructors and volunteers in training and coordinating the horses. Work closely with the Program Director and other staff to recruit, retain and retire program horses.
- Assist in equine assignments, usage in lessons, training needs and tack fittings.
- Work with Discovery Riders staff to keep Discovery Riders in compliance with all facility standards as related to CHA.
- Maintain superior cleanliness of the equine facility.
- Operate heavy machinery-Tractor, skid steer for manure removal and arena drag.
- Understand horse trailer safety and transport horses as needed with the Discovery Riders truck and trailer.
- Oversees facility maintenance. Ensures completion of daily, weekly, monthly facility maintenance schedule.
Assist the Executive Director in operational duties as needed.
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
