Exciting opportunity for an experienced Charge Nurse to lead our team in our modern, well equipped 3 room Ophthalmology Ambulatory Surgery Center. You will work with our amazing surgeons who perform over 400 surgeries per month including cataract, oculoplastic, vitrectomy, glaucoma, and cornea procedures. You will assist our surgeons as part of the team that restores sight for our patients! This is a working leader role, where you will rotate among Pre-Op, OR, and PACU stations. You will lead by example and coach your Nursing team to perform safely and efficiently.
In this position, you will oversee RN and non RN staff, schedule staff, supervise the ordering of supplies, and handle facility maintenance issues. You will lead your team to ensure that the ASC is survey ready, operating safely and efficiently at all times. In this role, you will be on your feet 8 hours per day working, leading by example, and coaching employees to achieve outstanding performance.
Responsibilities
- Direct, oversee and evaluate nursing staff of 5-11 RNs
- Direct, oversee and evaluate non-RN OR techs and Medical Assistants.
- Maintain quality programs. Assign quality audits to RNs and follow up to ensure completion. Conduct daily quality checks and coach RN staff on a daily basis to ensure high quality and efficiency.
- Respond to MD requests in a timely manner; coordinate with OR manager to ensure timely turnover of OR rooms; maintain current standard of 7-9 minute turnover
- Guide staffing procedures, ensure staff is productive. Schedule RNs, OR Techs, and MAs. Provide schedules minimum 4 weeks in advance. Eliminate overstaffing by ensuring staffing corresponds to caseload.
- Ensure that RNs conduct patient follow up calls and quality audits during downtime between patients vs. waiting until the end of the day for these tasks
- Monitor operations and patient flow. Ensure that the RN team receives morning break, lunch period prior to 5th hour, and afternoon break
- Lead your team to coordinate admission, nursing and patient care procedures. Enforce policies for legal compliance and high quality standards.
- Resolve issues and deficiencies quickly. Comply with record-keeping procedures
- Lead QI studies to improve ASC performance
- Ensure Peer review process is current and all survey readiness documentation is up to date
- Follow up on assigned activities to ensure that daily, weekly, and monthly audits are performed.
- Achieve budgeting initiatives by monitoring expenditures
Skills
· Proven experience as Charge Nurse
· In-depth knowledge of surgical procedures and KPI/KQIs of patient care
· Great knowledge of legal regulations and best practices in healthcare
· Excellent ability to lead and develop teams; Great communication and people skills
· Outstanding organizational and stress management skills; Aptitude in problem-solving
· Ophthalmology experience a huge plus!
Job Type: Full-time
· Salary: From $110,000 including bonus pay based on achieving case count targets & staffing efficiency levels
