Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting
School of Business, University of Charleston
Position Summary:
This faculty member will teach undergraduate accounting courses and contribute to the continued growth of the Accounting program. There is potential for program director responsibilities—including leadership in curriculum development, assessment, and community engagement—for qualified candidates.
The University is teaching‑focused and student‑centered. The School of Business serves over 300 business students with undergraduate majors in Accounting, Business Analytics, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Financial Planning, Management, Marketing, Professional Selling, Sport Business, Sport Analytics, and Sport Media. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and are primarily full‑time and residential. The School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP).
The position reports to the Dean of the School of Business.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Teaching primarily in‑seat financial accounting courses, including Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, and Auditing. Hybrid or online courses may be part of the teaching load as needed.
- Contributing to program and course design, development, and assessment; mentoring students through organizations and activities; and engaging with community professionals.
- Academic advising of students.
- Scholarly activity consistent with expectations for faculty at an ACBSP‑accredited school.
- University service through committee membership and participation in shared governance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in accounting or related field preferred. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and significant professional experience (e.g., CPA) will be considered, with the expectation of completing a master’s degree within an agreed‑upon timeframe.
- CPA credential or substantial professional experience as a financial accountant or auditor.
- Energy, enthusiasm, and excellence in teaching; experience teaching in multiple modalities (in‑seat, hybrid, online) preferred.
- Record of applied scholarship or professional contributions.
- Experience using appropriate technology in course development and delivery.
- Ability to engage students in professional and career preparation.
- Willingness to actively participate in service to the university, school, and community.
