Position Summary:
Drive scheduled bus routes Monday-Thursday from August through June. This part time position will be for the scheduled school year, with a lay off during the summer. Candidate must be flexible in working hours, this will be a split shift. Candidate may also be asked to fill in for other bus drivers if they are unable to work.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the safe transportation of Head Start children between their pick up and drop off designation and the St. Croix Tribal Head Start. The incumbent of this position will drive a small school bus and ensure passenger safety, general bus cleaning and responsibility for maintaining accurate transportation documents.
Part Time Bus Driver Job Duties:
- Ensure safe transport of Head Start children to and from the Head Start Building and their homes.
- Perform pre-trip safety check on bus daily.
- Ensure the bus is in good working condition before taking it on a route.
- Requires the ability to keep clear and accurate reports and correspondence.
- Enforce Head Start Policies on required use of seat belts for all passengers, including self.
- Requires ability to drive in all types of weather.
- Requires the ability to be willing to work occasional flexible hours.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date emergency information on all children riding the bus.
- Requires well developed oral communication skills to convey information to parents/guardians and community members, as well as work cooperatively with a diverse population of children and parents/families.
- Requires the ability to promptly respond to child/parent/guardian needs and respond positively to potentially emotional requests for service and assistance.
- Requires the ability to work effectively and respectfully within the St. Croix Tribal Community and Culture.
- Requires the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Scope and Complexity:
Interacts with all levels of management, employees, and parents; often trusted with maintaining confidentiality and relaying highly sensitive information, and appropriate application of business operations and practices.
Physical Demands/Environment Factors:
- Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking.
- May be required to lift up to 60 pounds.
- Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects.
- Need ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on the telephone.
- May require off-site travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a High School diploma or GED
- Must have a valid State Driver’s license and be insurable under St. Croix Tribe’s Drivers Insurance Policy.
- Must possess or be able to obtain prior to first day of employment a current Commercial Driver License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement.
- Requires a current Doctor’s Physical Examination Card.
- Requires First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment and maintaining said certification for the duration of employment.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Must be able to pass comprehensive background check, pre-employment alcohol/drug test and have a safe driving record at the state and national level.
- Must have demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, managers, parents, and children.
- Requires effective presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
- Needs commitment to timeliness and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One-year experience in school bus driving.
- Some experience in a childcare setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.

Pay: $16.14 - $17.47 per hour
