Position: Auxiliary Catholic Priest
Position Overview
The Auxiliary Catholic Priest provides Roman Catholic worship services and sacramental ministry for the Catholic faith community at Hurlburt Field Chapel. Working in coordination with the Wing Chaplain and Catholic Chaplain, the Priest serves as the primary celebrant for scheduled Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, sacramental celebrations, and other liturgical services in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS), and Department of the Air Force guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Celebrate scheduled Sunday and weekday Catholic Masses.
- Hear Confessions prior to scheduled Masses.
- Celebrate Holy Day of Obligation Masses as required.
- Perform sacramental celebrations, including:
- Penance (Confession)
- Baptism
- Anointing of the Sick
- Other sacraments as requested
- Conduct additional liturgical services such as Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
- Coordinate worship schedules with the Wing Chaplain to avoid conflicts with other faith groups.
- Maintain documentation of services performed in accordance with Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) guidelines.
- Respond to emergency pastoral needs, including sacramental ministry when required.
- Arrive sufficiently in advance of scheduled services to prepare for worship.
- Maintain professional communication with the Wing Chaplain and designated representatives.
Key Requirements
Candidates must:
- Be an ordained Roman Catholic Priest in good standing with a Catholic Diocese or Religious Order within the United States.
- Possess, or be able to obtain, current faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS).
- Be able to obtain and maintain a valid DD Form 2088 (Statement of Ecclesiastical Endorsement) within 60 days of contract award.
- Provide:
- Certificate of Ordination
- Letter of Good Standing from the applicable U.S. Catholic Diocese or Religious Order
- Be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Successfully complete the required Department of Defense background investigation.
- Be capable of performing duties independently with minimal Government supervision.
- Maintain current contact information with the Wing Chaplain.
- Be eligible for base access and comply with all installation security requirements.
- Maintain a professional appearance appropriate for chapel worship services.
Typical Service Schedule
- Sunday Mass : 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM OR/AND 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Confessions begin one hour before each Mass
- Weekday Mass
- (1) Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
- (2) Wednesday: 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM
- - Confessions begin 30 minutes before each weekday Mass
- Additional services are provided on Holy Days of Obligation and for sacramental requests as needed.
Location: Hurlburt Field Chapel, 210 Cody Avenue, Hurlburt Field, Florida
Pay: $70.00 - $100.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
