The Role
The Shop Floor Manager owns everything inside the building. You will run the day-to-day operation of our repair shop — scheduling work, managing technicians, driving quality and turnaround times, and keeping the shop safe, organized, and profitable.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily shop workflow: intake, teardown/inspection, quoting support, repair, testing, and shipment of pumps, motors, and rotating equipment
- Supervise, schedule, and develop shop technicians and panel shop staff; conduct performance reviews and identify training needs
- Enforce quality standards on rebuilds — fits, tolerances, balancing, seal and bearing installation, and final run testing
- Coordinate with the Service Writer on job status, promise dates, and customer communication
- Review teardown reports and repair quotes for accuracy and completeness before they go to customers
- Manage shop inventory: parts, consumables, seals, bearings, and shop supplies; minimize dead stock and stockouts
- Maintain shop equipment (cranes, test stands, machine tools) and coordinate repairs and calibration
- Drive safety compliance: lockout/tagout, lifting, PPE, housekeeping, and incident reporting
- Support our ERP for work orders, labor tracking, and inventory
- Track shop KPIs: turnaround time, rework rate, labor utilization, and warranty claims
Qualifications
- 5+ years hands-on experience with rotating equipment repair (pumps, motors, or similar), including 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role
- Strong mechanical aptitude: bearings, mechanical seals, shaft/impeller fits, alignment, and dynamic balancing concepts
- Working knowledge of electric motors and basic motor testing (megger, surge, rotation)
- Proven ability to schedule work, manage people, and hold a team accountable
- Comfortable with computers — work orders, email, spreadsheets; ERP experience a plus
