Position Summary
Millwood Plumbing Services is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Staff Accountant to support the company's financial operations. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end close processes, managing accounts payable and receivable, performing reconciliations, and supporting management with financial reporting and analysis.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, experience working in a service-based business environment, and advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Access.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Accounting
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting principles.
- Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts, and general ledger accounts.
- Review and analyze financial transactions for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and management reports.
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Process vendor invoices and ensure timely payment of company obligations.
- Maintain vendor records and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Monitor customer accounts and assist with collections efforts as needed.
- Apply customer payments and reconcile accounts receivable balances.
Payroll & Employee Support
- Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related reconciliations.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Support employee reimbursement and expense reporting processes.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare financial reports and schedules for management review.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Analyze operational expenses and identify trends or discrepancies.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Maintain organized accounting records and documentation.
- Assist with process improvements and internal controls.
- Collaborate with management, operations, and customer service teams to support company objectives.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience. Will consider a new graduate holding an Accounting degree with no experience.
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles.
- Experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliations.
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information.
Preferred
· Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including:
o Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis)
o Access
· Experience in the plumbing, construction, HVAC, electrical, or home services industry.
· Experience with job costing and service-based accounting.
- Knowledge of payroll processing and payroll tax reporting.
- Experience with budgeting and financial analysis.
