The Township of Rockton is seeking a full-time Highway Maintenance Employee who, under the supervision of the Highway Commissioner, will perform a variety of duties related to street division operations. This position requires operation of all associated equipment.
The successful candidate will have a High School Diploma or GED, a valid Class B CDL with Air Brake Endorsement (or ability to obtain a permit within 90 days of hire), construction experience related to Civil Engineering projects, strong knowledge of safety practices for construction work, and skill in the operation and maintenance of associated equipment.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Operation of end loaders, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, rollers, mowers, limb chippers, power saws and various tree trimming equipment.
- Street sweeping, catch basin maintenance and restorations, snow plowing and removal, snow shoveling and salting, pavement repair/patching, and installation and maintenance of street/traffic signs.
- Maintenance of Township buildings, properties and vehicles.
- Responding to citizen complaints, after-hour service requests, and emergency call-ins for operational or weather emergencies.
- Adherence to safety regulations and policies, and compliance with work rules in the performance of duties.
- Inspection and testing of equipment to verify conformance with safety guidelines.
Starting wage for this position is $19.00/hour, commensurate with relevant experience, plus an excellent benefit package that includes health, vision & life insurance, paid time off, and an IMRF pension after 90 days.
