Position Title: Kennel Assistant
Overall Responsibility:
The Primary purpose of the position is to provide care and the basic needs of animals that are being groomed, boarded, or are patients of Countryside Veterinary Clinic.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Walks through the kennel areas checking each animal individually for any abnormal activity such as vomiting, diarrhea, or blood in cage or run; Reports any abnormalities to tech/drs
- Mark charts correctly for eating, drinking, fecal, and urine production
- Feeds and waters animals according to schedules
- Cleans and disinfects cages, runs, and yards as needed
- Cleans and disinfects all water and food bowls
- Picks up soiled bedding and moves it to laundry area
- Places clean bedding in run with animals
- Operates washer and dryer to clean kennel bedding and hospital laundry
- Records and labels all belongings
- Walks all dogs at appropriate times
- Greet every client with a smile and address client and pet by name
- Assist clients with their pets or large purchases
- Maintains cleanliness of hospital, including shoveling/salting walkways
- Bathing animals (make sure animals are clean and smell fresh prior to discharge)
- Empty trash in kennel areas
- Sweep and mop floors daily in kennel areas
- Patrol hospital grounds daily, picking up any trash or stool material
- Keeps materials and cleaning supplies stocked and filled (cat carriers, burial boxes, litter trays)
- Assisting the technicians and doctors with restraining animals
- Perform safe tactics when handling aggressive animals
- Assist with euthanasia’s & physically moving the remains
- Recycle all used wet food cans and baby food containers
- Assist with any other tasks asked
Skills and Attributes:
- Willing to work weekends, nights, and holidays
- Required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, talk, and listen; may be required to walk or stand for long periods of time; will use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms.
- Often required to lift and carry animals or materials weighing fifty pounds or more; handle dogs weighing up to 150 lbs.
- Professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude towards pet owners/co-workers
- Wear proper uniform, have good personal hygiene, and no open toed shoes
Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Education:
