Job Summary:
As the Laborer, you will ultimately be responsible for supporting construction activities, assisting field crews, and maintaining safe and efficient job site operations. You will perform general labor duties, assist with underground utility construction, and deliver quality workmanship while adhering to company safety standards. As the Laborer, your customers are construction crews, project managers, and telecommunications clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through safe work practices, dependable field support, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Attend and participate in daily job-specific safety and huddle meetings
- Operate various tamping machines in accordance with company specifications
- Inspect equipment and assist with routine maintenance of machines and tools
- Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment at job sites
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Inspect and safely operate hand tools used for construction activities
- Assist equipment operators with trench excavation, shoring installation, and backfilling procedures
- Install conduit in open trenches and proof conduits
- Perform potholing to expose existing underground utilities
- Assist with the installation of underground structures
- Perform concrete forming, pouring, asphalt preparation, and placement
- Maintain company vehicles and ensure their safe and proper utilization
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements and company safety standards
- Complete required annual safety training and participate in random drug screenings
- Report injuries, incidents, and unsafe conditions to the Foreman
- Assist in cleaning and organizing job sites at the end of each shift
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable transportation to various job sites
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Experience
- Previous construction experience preferred but not required
- Experience working outdoors in physically demanding environments preferred
- Training provided for qualified candidates
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with crew members, leadership, and clients
- Strong understanding of construction safety procedures and policies
- Ability to safely lift up to 75 lbs.
- Excellent vision or corrected vision sufficient to perform job duties safely
- Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor for extended periods in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining a positive attitude
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience and knowledge of underground utility construction
- Experience operating small construction equipment and hand tools
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment
- Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain
- Ability to safely use hand tools, small equipment, and construction machinery
- Ability to travel to various local job sites as business needs require
