Position Overview
The Orton-Gillingham Practitioner will provide structured, individualized literacy instruction using the Orton-Gillingham approach, in accordance with the standards of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham (AOG), within our half-day program. This is a contract, hourly position with hours aligned to our program schedule. The ideal candidate brings AOG-aligned OG training and experience working with students who learn differently.
Responsibilities
- Deliver one-to-one, direct, multisensory Orton-Gillingham instruction to students within the half-day (AM/PM) program setting
- Develop and implement individualized, diagnostic and prescriptive lesson plans aligned to each student's Scope and Sequence and IEP goals
- Apply structured, sequential, cumulative OG methodology across phonological awareness, sound-symbol association, syllable instruction, morphology, and connected text
- Maintain accurate lesson plans, Concepts Taught Logs, and student progress documentation in accordance with AOG standards
- Track and document student progress and communicate regularly with the lead team and families
- Collaborate with other instructors and program staff to support whole-student learning
- Participate in program meetings, ongoing supervision, and continuing education required to maintain OG certification
Required Qualifications
- Active Associate Level (or higher) Orton-Gillingham certification through an AOG-accredited training program
- Connecticut teaching or Special Education certification (or actively pursuing)
- Demonstrated experience delivering direct, individualized Orton-Gillingham instruction to students with dyslexia and related language-based learning differences
- Strong understanding of the structured, sequential, multisensory OG approach as defined by AOG Standards and Practices
- Ability to conduct diagnostic teaching and adjust lessons based on ongoing assessment of individual student needs and IEP goals
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Level or higher OGA/AOG certification
- Experience working in a therapeutic or specialized school setting
- Familiarity with assistive technology and accommodations for students with dyslexia and ADHD
- Experience administering informal literacy assessments and progress monitoring tools
Pay: $100.00 per hour
