Unity Restoration is seeking a reliable, experienced Maintenance & Reconstruction Technician to join our growing team.
This is a hands-on position for someone who is a true handyman / multi-trade technician and is comfortable handling a wide variety of residential repairs. The majority of our work consists of reconstruction following water, mold, and property damage, along with apartment maintenance and unit turns for property management clients throughout Los Angeles.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, shows up when they say they will, communicates professionally, and can complete smaller repair projects independently without needing constant supervision.
Primary Responsibilities
The Maintenance & Reconstruction Technician will perform general construction, repair, installation, and maintenance work including:
- Drywall installation, patching, texturing, and repair
- Interior painting, touch-ups, priming, and finish work
- Insulation removal and installation
- Baseboard, trim, casing, and molding installation
- Interior door and door hardware replacement
- Cabinet installation, adjustment, and minor repairs
- Countertop and shelving installation
- Carpet removal and basic carpet installation
- LVP, laminate, engineered flooring, and other flooring installation
- Flooring demolition and preparation
- Toilet removal and installation
- Bathroom vanity installation
- Sink and faucet installation
- Garbage disposal replacement
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Shower and bathroom fixture replacement
- Caulking, sealing, and waterproofing-related finish work
- Minor electrical repairs, including switches, outlets, fixtures, and lighting where legally permitted
- Light fixture and ceiling fan replacement
- Smoke detector and CO detector replacement
- Minor appliance installation
- Door lock, handle, hinge, and hardware replacement
- Closet shelving and hardware installation
- Minor framing and carpentry
- Furniture and fixture assembly
- Punch-list repairs
- General property maintenance
- Debris removal and jobsite cleanup
Water-Damage Reconstruction
A major portion of this position involves restoring properties after mitigation or remediation work has been completed.
Typical assignments may include:
- Replacing drywall removed during water mitigation
- Reinstalling insulation
- Patching access openings
- Matching existing wall texture
- Priming and painting repaired areas
- Replacing baseboards and trim
- Reinstalling vanities, cabinets, toilets, and plumbing fixtures
- Replacing damaged flooring
- Completing final punch-list items
- Returning affected areas as closely as reasonably possible to their pre-loss condition
Technicians must understand that restoration projects often take place in occupied homes, apartments, multifamily buildings, and professionally managed properties, making cleanliness and professionalism extremely important.
Apartment Unit Turns & Property Maintenance
Technicians will also support our property management clients with vacant-unit turns and ongoing maintenance.
Typical unit-turn work may include:
- Drywall patches
- Interior painting
- Touch-up painting
- Caulking
- Fixture replacement
- Door and hardware repairs
- Cabinet repairs
- Flooring repairs or replacement
- Toilet and vanity replacement
- Faucet and sink replacement
- Garbage disposal replacement
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Minor electrical repairs
- Closet and shelving repairs
- Punch-list completion
- General apartment make-ready work
The goal is to help our property management clients get vacant units repaired, cleaned up, and rent-ready quickly without sacrificing workmanship.
Jobsite Responsibilities
In addition to performing repairs, technicians are expected to:
- Maintain clean and organized jobsites
- Protect customer belongings and unaffected finishes
- Properly use drop cloths, plastic protection, floor protection, and containment when required
- Load, unload, carry, and organize tools and construction materials
- Pick up materials and supplies when assigned
- Remove construction debris
- Maintain company tools and equipment
- Take before, during, and after photos of completed work
- Document work completed each day
- Communicate project progress and potential additional repairs to management
- Notify management before completing work outside of the approved scope
- Professionally communicate with homeowners, tenants, property managers, vendors, and subcontractors
- Follow Unity Restoration safety procedures and use required PPE
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who can walk into an apartment or reconstruction project, review a repair list, and confidently complete multiple trades without requiring a separate technician for every small task.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of handyman, apartment maintenance, construction, remodeling, or restoration experience preferred
- Strong drywall and painting skills
- General carpentry experience
- Basic plumbing knowledge
- Basic electrical knowledge
- Experience installing toilets, sinks, faucets, and vanities
- Experience installing flooring and trim
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools
- Ability to accurately measure and estimate materials needed for small repairs
- Ability to follow written scopes of work and job instructions
- Ability to take clear jobsite photographs and provide updates using a smartphone
- Reliable transportation
- Valid driver's license
- Strong attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work independently when assigned
- Ability to work as part of a reconstruction or mitigation team
- Ability to safely lift and carry construction materials and equipment
- Professional appearance and communication

Schedule
This is primarily a Monday–Friday daytime position, although restoration work can occasionally require:
- Early mornings
- Overtime
- Saturdays
- Emergency-response support
Availability may vary based on project volume and property-management deadlines.

Technicians may work in occupied and vacant properties.
