Position Overview:
Seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (GD&T) with 10+ years of experience to support aerospace programs in Phoenix, AZ. This role focuses on engineering drawing validation, ASME Y14.5 compliance, and model-based design review, while collaborating across teams and mentoring junior engineers. Short-term contract with potential for extension or full-time conversion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate across Honeywell Aerospace engineering teams to develop solutions that meet evolving customer needs
- Support both product development and production phases
- Act as a mentor and coach to junior engineers
- Contribute to the technical validation group within the Engine and Power Systems organization
- Serve as a technical validator for aerospace engineering drawings
- Ensure drawings are fully defined and compliant with company and industry standards
- Review engineering drawings/models for proper application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Validate adherence to model-based definition (MBD) practices and standards
- Perform model validation activities
- Evaluate designs for manufacturability and cost efficiency
Key Requirements:
· 10+ years of experience in mechanical design
· Strong expertise in engineering drawings
· Deep understanding and application of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):
· Experience with gas turbine engine components
· Proven expertise in applying ASME drawing standards, including GD&T
· Strong capability in interpreting, preparing, and reviewing engineering drawings
· Experience in detailed design phase
· Familiarity with legacy drawings and specifications
· Demonstrated mentoring and coaching abilities
· Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative
· Strong decision-making skills in complex environments
· Experience coordinating work and leading small teams
