Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Coder and Biller to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and services into standardized codes using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) systems. You will ensure precise coding for billing purposes, maintain comprehensive medical records, and facilitate smooth revenue cycle management through effective medical billing and collections. Your expertise will directly impact the efficiency of our medical office operations and the quality of patient care documentation.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT codes, and DRGs based on documented diagnoses and procedures
- Ensure coding accuracy to support compliant billing processes and maximize reimbursements
- Prepare and submit detailed medical bills using electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Manage medical collections by following up on unpaid claims and resolving billing discrepancies
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, insurance policies, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or resolve coding issues promptly
- Organize and file medical records systematically to support audits and future reference
- Assist in training staff on medical terminology, coding standards, and documentation best practices
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical coding and billing within a healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications
- Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, pathology, and pharmacology
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and billing processes
- Excellent understanding of medical records management and compliance standards
- Ability to interpret complex clinical documentation accurately
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
