Position: Front of House Assistant Manager / Manager on Duty (MOD) Schedule: 30–40 hours per week
About: Kooks Café & Beach Bar is a seasonal restaurant and bar located in Rye, New Hampshire, just steps from the beach. Open mid-May through October, Kooks is known for its high-energy atmosphere, strong local following, and a coastal identity rooted in surf culture, tropical influence, and laid-back hospitality. The vibe is casual but the standard for service, execution, and team culture is high. We’re looking for someone who can step into a leadership role alongside our FOH Manager, support a young and dynamic staff, and contribute to a guest experience that feels both welcoming and memorable.
Job Overview: We are seeking a motivated and experienced Front of House Assistant Manager to support the daily operations of our establishment. This is a hands-on leadership role working directly alongside our FOH Manager to keep service running smoothly, maintain high standards, and help build the kind of team culture Kooks is known for.
The right candidate brings management or supervisory experience, strong interpersonal skills, and a genuine passion for hospitality.
Responsibilities As part of your leadership responsibilities for the 2025 season, your role will include:
- Supporting FOH scheduling through 7Shifts and flagging coverage needs to the FOH Manager
- Assisting with FOH inventory tracking and contributing to weekly order coordination
- Reviewing and correcting time card submissions
- Acting as Manager on Duty during assigned shifts, owning the floor from open to close
- Coordinating with the Head Kitchen Manager to ensure seamless BOH-FOH communication during service
- Supporting the planning and execution of private events and large parties
- Assisting in training and onboarding new hires
- Maintaining and troubleshooting the Square POS system
- Upholding food safety and health compliance standards throughout service
- Fostering a positive, team-first environment where staff feel supported and motivated
- Handling guest inquiries, complaints, and feedback with professionalism and care
Requirements
- Proven experience in a supervisory or assistant management role in food service or hospitality
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead by example on a busy floor
- Experience with staff training and a genuine investment in team development
- Ability to stay composed and detail-oriented in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- A real passion for hospitality and creating experiences guests want to come back for

Pay: $1,200.00 - $1,600.00 per week
