Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of the patient and work flow at the registration/reception area and is able to mentor and train junior staff members.
- Schedules department personnel to ensure proper staffing levels.
- Performs audits of registration duties to ensure quality assurance with the charge entry, registration, and check out process.
- Communicates effectively with patients, employees, peers, management and medical staff to promote successful working relationships.
- Greets and registers all incoming patients professionally. Handles incoming and outgoing communications concisely and in a pleasant manner.
- Conducts reports and reconciliations as assigned.
- Answers telephone promptly and courteously. Routes calls as appropriate and takes/forwards complete messages in a timely manner to the appropriate individuals.
- Schedules patient appointments for all physicians and confirms patient appointments as needed by the department.
- Obtains complete and accurate demographic and insurance information for each patient and enters information correctly into appropriate systems.
- Collects on patient accounts and/or copayments as indicated, maintains accurate accounting of the petty cash fund on a daily basis.
- Responds to patient inquiries with regard to basic insurance or billing questions or provide a referral to appropriate staff member.
- Restocks and maintains assigned work station and equipment in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Prefer one year work experience in a medical office setting, including management of personnel. Knowledge of medical terminology, word processing, and computer experience desirable.
