Job Summary
Highland Prep West is seeking applicants for the position of Varsity Softball Assistant Coach. This position would require regular attendance at practices after school as well as scheduled games and tournaments, which may require team travel via bus/van. This position offers a stipend. This position will be active from February 10th, 2026 - May 2nd, 2026.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sports coaching and be dedicated to educating young athletes in the fundamentals of Softball, fostering teamwork, and promoting a positive and inclusive environment. The assistant coach will be responsible for developing training programs, leading practice sessions, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
Salary: $1,500 stipend paid at end of season (May 2026), plus $500 signing bonus paid two weeks after coaching regular practices and coaching in first home game. Additional bonus of $250 per round paid if team qualifies for post season play to compensate for additional coaching time.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging training sessions that enhance players' skills and understanding of Softball.
- Conduct regular practices, focusing on individual skill development and team strategies.
- Educate players on the rules of the game, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
- Monitor players' progress and provide constructive feedback to help them improve.
- Organize and participate in games, tournaments, and other events.
- Ensure a safe playing environment by adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, and other coaches regarding schedules, expectations, and player development.
- Foster a positive team culture that encourages participation, respect, and enjoyment of the sport.
Skills
- Strong background in sports coaching, particularly in Softball.
- Experience in childcare or working with youth is highly desirable.
- Ability to educate young athletes effectively while maintaining enthusiasm for the sport.
- Excellent communication skills to engage with players, parents, and staff.
- Strong organizational skills to manage practice schedules and game logistics.
- A positive attitude with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
Certification:
NFHS Level 1 (Preferred)
CPR/First Aid
Arizona Driver’s License
Arizona DPS – IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Experience:
Arizona Teaching Certificate (Preferred)
Previous Softball coaching experience (coaching resume)
