The Quad City Animal Welfare Center (QCAWC) is seeking a compassionate, hardworking, and dependable Animal Caretaker/Adoption Counselor to join our Adoption & Education Center team.
This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about animal welfare, enjoys working with people, and isn't afraid of rolling up their sleeves. Every day is different as you'll help care for homeless animals while guiding families through the adoption process to ensure lifelong successful matches.
Position Summary
The Animal Caretaker/Adoption Counselor is responsible for providing daily care for shelter animals while creating a welcoming experience for visitors and helping adopters find the right pet for their family. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, healthy, and enriching environment for the animals in our care.
Essential Responsibilities - Animal Care
- Feed, water, and monitor dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens.
- Clean and disinfect animal kennels, cages, and shelter areas.
- Provide daily enrichment, exercise, and socialization.
- Observe animals for changes in health or behavior and report concerns promptly.
- Assist with medication administration as directed.
- Maintain accurate animal records.
Adoption Counseling
- Greet visitors and provide excellent customer service.
- Educate potential adopters about available animals and the adoption process.
- Match adopters with pets that best fit their lifestyle.
- Process adoption paperwork and collect adoption fees.
- Promote responsible pet ownership.
Shelter Operations
- Assist with animal intakes and owner surrenders.
- Help maintain adoption areas and public spaces.
- Restock supplies and assist with laundry.
- Support volunteers and foster families as needed.
- Participate in community events and adoption promotions.
- Follow all shelter safety, sanitation, and animal handling procedures.
Pay: $15.00 per hour
