Part-Time School Transportation Driver
Job Summary
Universal Scholars Academy is seeking a dependable, caring, and safety-focused Part-Time School Transportation Driver to transport elementary school students safely to and from home, school, educational field trips, and school-sponsored activities. The ideal candidate is punctual, patient, and committed to providing a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for children.
This is a part-time position with morning and afternoon routes during the school year, with additional hours available for field trips and special events.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport elementary school students to and from school according to established routes and schedules.
- Transport students on educational field trips, community/athletic events, and other school activities as needed.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
- Ensure students board, ride, and exit the vehicle safely.
- Maintain accurate daily transportation logs and mileage records.
- Follow all Wisconsin traffic laws and school transportation safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly school vehicle.
- Communicate professionally with school administrators, staff, parents, and students.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies while following school safety procedures.
- Attend required staff meetings and transportation safety trainings.
- Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all licenses or endorsements required to operate the school’s transportation vehicle.
- Previous experience transporting children, students, or passengers preferred.
- Ability to pass:
- Criminal Background Check
- Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check
- Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review
- Drug and alcohol screening (if required)
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to supervise elementary-aged children while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist students entering and exiting the vehicle when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience driving a school bus, passenger van, shuttle, or commercial vehicle.
- Defensive Driving Certification.
- Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting.
