Mechanic Trainee
The Mechanic Trainee is responsible for hands-on predictive and preventative maintenance as well as repairs to machinery, equipment, and facilities. Responsibilities are to be completed in accordance with established processes to ensure safety, cost, efficiency, timeliness, and production of a quality product within specifications and minimal defects. This is a highly collaborative position requiring the ability to work within a team and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities based on business needs.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess and maintain personal tools to support assigned responsibilities.
- Perform responsibilities to completion ensuring the ability to safely use tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Follow established quality guidelines in support of SQF and/or GMP requirements.
- Perform responsibilities in accordance with the work order system assignments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Understands the importance of maintaining accurate records within Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including work orders and parts usage.
- Complete minor repairs and routine maintenance on machinery and equipment including but not limited to extruders, formers, chillers, air compressors, vacuum pumps, conveyors, box erectors, tapers, and other production equipment.
- Support facility maintenance including minor plumbing or building repairs including but not limited to furniture assembly, painting, drywall repairs, carpentry, spill or leak clean-up, floor maintenance, lighting, hanging and/or moving boards and snow removal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly audits and inspections of safety, facility, and peripheral support equipment including but not limited to:
- Fire extinguishers, emergency exit signs and lighting, eyewash stations and/or showers
- Ladders, steps, and walkways
- Facility roof
- Resin delivery and storage equipment including baghouse, transfer hoses, rail-spurs, and visual silo inspections.
- Dock levelers and locks, roll-up doors, battery charging/changing station.
- Machine guarding
- Perform route and preventative tasks including but not limited to:
- Maintenance and replacement of water, oil, air, and HVAC filters
- Oil and lubrication
- Cleaning and degreasing
- Able to safely and properly use tools to include:
- Hand and power tools
- Grinders, sandblast cabinet, presses, saws, drills
- Lifting and/or rigging devices, bridges, and chains
- Scrubbers, washers, and cleaners
- Assist maintenance team and develop skills in relation to:
- Facility and ground equipment breakdowns and/or repairs
- Tooling repairs, cleaning, and preventative maintenance
- Tool, mold cavity and/or insert changeovers and set-ups.
- Extrusion die removal/separation, polishing, replacement
- Roll and/or nip stand, and chain rail adjustments.
- Trim press tool removal, canopy, and servo ejector, nip-wheel index, fiber optic lug scanner set-up, platen shut height and treadle guide adjustments.
- Able to safely operate powered industrial trucks such as floor scrubbers, scissor lifts, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
- Perform responsibilities within the requirements of GMP, SQF, Safety and Standards of Conduct policies and procedures.

- Ensure housekeeping in the immediate and surrounding work area is maintained or improved to the highest level possible.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Basic ability to read and interpret technical drawings or diagrams including equipment, tooling and other blueprints and mechanical renditions.
- Knowledge of or experience in troubleshooting or performing mechanical repairs
- Knowledge of or experience with plastics processing machinery a plus.
- Basic computer skills include email and data-entry.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Mechanical and/or construction aptitude or training preferred.
- Math and measurement skills include the ability to understand and manipulate fractions and decimals.
Requirements:

Must be able to:
- Work an 8-hour or rotating 12-hour shift with overtime as required.
- Sit constantly, stand and/or walk frequently.
- Speak and hear constantly.
- Use of fingers, hands, and arms constantly.
Ability to utilize stairs and ladders and work at heights
