Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Survey Party Chief to lead field surveying operations and ensure precise data collection for a variety of Oil/Gas and Utility development projects. As a party chief, you will complete project scopes and ensure accurate measurement and mapping/boundary practices. Your expertise will drive project success by delivering reliable survey data that forms the foundation for design, construction, and land management efforts. Responsibilities
- Lead your I-man in performing land surveys, topographic mapping, boundary establishment, and construction staking with precision and efficiency
- Plan daily field activities, assign tasks, and monitor progress to meet project deadlines
- Operate advanced surveying equipment, including GPS units, 3D scanners, total stations, and robotic instruments to gather accurate spatial data
- Conduct utility locating to identify underground infrastructure and prevent conflicts during construction projects
- Utilize CAD software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Carlson for processing survey data
- Apply principles of trigonometry, geometry, algebra, and math to calculate distances, angles, elevations, and coordinate systems accurately
- Maintain meticulous field notes and survey records while ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to review survey plans and clarify project requirements
- Use hand tools and construction-related equipment for setting benchmarks, stakes, and markers on-site
Experience
- Proven experience as a Land Surveyor or Survey Party Chief with a strong background in pipeline surveying techniques and practices
- Demonstrated proficiency with GPS technology, 3D scanners, total stations, and other surveying instruments
- Familiarity with CAD software, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D for data processing (this is a plus, NOT a requirement)
- Knowledge of utility locating methods to identify underground utilities safely before excavation or construction begins
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when handling equipment or materials on-site safely
- Strong understanding of schematics related to construction plans and land boundaries
- Excellent math skills, including trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and basic calculations necessary for precise measurements
