Position Summary
Chattanooga Federal Employees Credit Union is seeking a friendly, knowledgeable, and service-oriented Loan Officer to join our team. The Loan Officer is responsible for interviewing loan applicants, evaluating creditworthiness, making sound lending decisions within established policies, and delivering outstanding member service throughout the lending process.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, enjoys building relationships, and is an excellent problem solver who can think critically, evaluate unique financial situations, and provide members with solutions that best meet their needs while supporting the credit union's lending policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Interview members to determine their lending needs and recommend appropriate loan products.
- Process consumer loan applications, including auto, personal, credit card, and other secured loans.
- Analyze credit reports, income documentation, loan qualifications and collateral information.
- Approve or deny loans within lending authority and convey the decision to the member.
- Prepare recommendations for loans requiring higher approval if necessary.
- Explain loan decisions, terms, rates, payment options, and required documentation to members.
- Recommend additional credit union products and services that benefit members.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including NCUA and lending requirements.
- Ensure loan documentation is complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
- Provide prompt, courteous, and professional service while maintaining confidentiality.
- Assist members with loan servicing questions and problem resolution.
- Work collaboratively with branch staff to achieve organizational goals.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous lending or financial institution experience preferred.
- Knowledge of consumer lending practices, underwriting principles, and credit analysis.
- Strong understanding of credit reports and debt-to-income calculations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to make sound decisions while balancing member service and risk management.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple software applications.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify creative, member-focused financial solutions while maintaining sound lending practices.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in a credit union or community financial institution.
- Knowledge of NCUA regulations and consumer lending compliance.
