General Manager – Ace Handyman Services & Ace Painting Services
Guthrie's Ace Hardware is seeking a strategic, operationally strong General Manager to run and grow our Ace Handyman Services and Ace Painting Services divisions — a combined $1.5M+ home services business in the greater Nashville area. In this role, you will have full operational and financial ownership of these service lines, running the business from top to bottom as if it were your own, with the backing of a highly trusted national brand and deep local roots.
Reporting directly to the owner, you will lead our entire local team, including our Office Manager, Customer Service Representatives (CSRs), handymen, and painters. Your primary objective is to drive sustainable revenue growth while maintaining stable, healthy profit margins. We're looking for a manager who brings financial discipline to the business, avoiding wild swings in profitability and consistently hitting target margins.
Day-to-Day Operations
- Run day-to-day operations of a growing handyman and painting services business.
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable the office staff, customer service team, and field technicians (handymen and painters), including scheduling of technicians and subcontractors.
- Oversee daily scheduling, dispatching, and customer service workflows to ensure high-quality service delivery and client satisfaction.
- Visit job sites regularly to ensure quality control and customer satisfaction.
- Troubleshoot operational bottlenecks and implement efficient processes to keep field crews productive.
Long-Term & Financial Management
- Manage the full profit and loss (P&L) statement for both the handyman and painting divisions, including estimates, job costing, and project coordination.
- Meet with the owner monthly to review P&L performance, present operational data, and outline growth strategies.
- Implement pricing, estimating, and cost-control strategies to protect margins and drive healthy, consistent profitability.
- Build and execute local marketing and operational plans to grow revenue and customer relationships in the greater Nashville area.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Proven experience in a management or operations role within a service-oriented industry (general handyman services, residential/commercial painting, construction management, pest control, HVAC, plumbing, or other residential trades).
- Strong financial acumen with direct experience managing a P&L and a track record of maintaining stable, predictable profit margins.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to manage both office-based customer service staff and field-based tradespeople/subcontractors.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present financial and operational reports clearly to business ownership.
- A strategic mindset paired with a hands-on approach to daily problem-solving, and strong networking/relationship-building instincts.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Active trade licenses or industry-relevant certifications (e.g., residential contractor license, EPA certifications, lead-safe certifications).
- Experience managing a multi-unit or multi-brand service operation.

- Total Compensation: $80,000-125,000 (base salary depending on experience, plus performance-based bonuses and profit-share opportunities tied to business profitability and revenue growth)
