Job Title: Laundry Aide
Department: Laundry
Supervisor: Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor
Job Summary: Pick up, deliver, sort, weight, wash, dry, iron, fold, stack, and hang resident and facility laundry; knowledge of household and industrial laundry equipment; maintain cleanliness of laundry areas. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Experience: One year of laundry experience preferred
Job Knowledge: Ability to read, write and follow instructions; knowledge and ability to use household and industrial washers and dryers; knowledge of commercial laundry processes, equipment, and procedures for both washing and ironing materials; knowledge of infection control; knowledge of Materials Safety Data Sheets.

Special Demands: Desirable personal and character qualifications: literate, good physical health, knowledge of safety precautions on detergent and equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
§ Wash garments and linens in an electrically powered washing machine and adjust valves to proper temperature.
§ Use soap or other solutions at appropriate times.
§ Transfer washed clothes from washer to dryer and to baskets for distribution.
§ Hang finished garments on hangers, or fold and stack garments.
§ Distribute clothes to residents’ rooms.
§ Wear gloves as necessary when handling dirty linens. Wash hands after contact with any soiled linen.
§ Wash contaminated linens separately if necessary.
§ Avoid overloading machine.
§ Report malfunctions of equipment.
§ Be willing to perform routine tasks on a continuous basis and keep up with flow of work.
§ Handle, store, process, and transport all linens in a manner that will prevent the spread of infection.
§ Clean laundry area and equipment.
§ Damp-dry clothes in extractor when necessary.
§ Understand function of various soaps, bleaches, softeners, and other chemicals involved in washing and rinsing.
§ Able to distinguish between cotton, wool, and synthetics.
§ Be familiar with proper heat to apply to particular fabrics to prevent damaging material.
§ Ensure that resident’ clothes are properly identified and labeled with indelible ink pen.
§ Report losses and damages of residents’ laundry.
§ Keep laundry off floors.
§ Remove lint from tumbler and keep tumbler clean.
§ Use only the amount of detergent required since this will help maintain a low suds level.
Physical activities and requirements (see attached list for more details): Laundry Aide must perform all physical tasks (including lifting of 25 pounds) required in normal, irregular or emergency operations to keep the facility running efficiently, ensuring at all times that residents receive excellent quality care. Laundry Aide may also be asked to perform housekeeping, dietary, and general maintenance tasks as directed by the Administrator in crisis situations.

Pay: $12.00 per hour
