General Function
The Martial Arts Instructorwill be responsible and accountable for planning, conducting, and evaluating high quality classes, while informing and serving YMCA members and volunteers in a premier fashion.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
- At minimum, a high school degree or equivalent is required
- Experience working with children in a group setting is preferred, not required
- CPR and First Aid certifications must be current within 30 days of hire
- An understanding of physical education principles is essential as well as the ability to work with people of all ages and fitness levels
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Teaches members the proper and preferred technique for all exercises
- Communicates positively with members by motivating them through creativity, personality, energy and enthusiasm
- Maintains a neat, clean and pleasant environment throughout the entire YMCA and especially in the areas where the Martial Arts classes are held.
- Maintains safety in all classes by following YMCA and national certification guidelines
- Organizes, at a minimum, three family events for participants from the Martial Arts program
- Informs members of new information regarding training, exercise safety and effectiveness
- Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
Abilities & Skills
- Physical ability to perform the classes they will be leading
- Ability to communicate verbally to individuals and small groups, especially children
