Duties
- Perform general tree service duties, including tree trimming, pruning, removals, brush cleanup, and storm-damage cleanup.
- Assist with stump grinding operations, including setup, operation, debris removal, and site cleanup.
- Safely operate trucks with trailers, flatbeds, dump trailers, or tractor-trailers to transport crew members, equipment, logs, mulch, brush, and other materials.
- Transport tree service equipment such as chippers, stump grinders, chainsaws, loaders, lifts, and other jobsite machinery.
- Secure equipment, logs, branches, and other cargo properly for transportation.
- Navigate using GPS systems to ensure efficient and timely travel between job sites, supply locations, and designated routes.
- Load and unload equipment, tools, logs, brush, and other cargo safely while following proper lifting and material-handling procedures.
- Assist tree crews with jobsite setup, traffic control, work-zone safety, and cleanup.
- Operate or assist with chippers, stump grinders, trailers, loaders, and other tree-care equipment as trained and authorized.
- Feed brush and limbs into wood chippers while following all manufacturer safety procedures.
- Assist with moving logs, branches, debris, and equipment around residential and commercial job sites.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area before, during, and after tree service operations.
- Follow proper procedures when working around power lines, roadways, buildings, vehicles, and other potential hazards.
- Drive in accordance with DOT and FMCSA regulations, ensuring all required safety protocols are followed during transit.
- Transport hazardous or dangerous goods when applicable, following all required safety procedures and legal requirements.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, vehicle inspection reports, job documentation, and compliance records throughout each shift.
- Conduct routine pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical or safety issues.
- Perform manual handling tasks, including loading/unloading equipment, moving materials, and handling tree debris.
- Maintain and properly secure all tools, equipment, and materials used on tree service jobs.
- Communicate professionally with customers and crew members and represent the company in a courteous and dependable manner.
- Follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, DOT regulations, and applicable tree-care safety standards.
- Assist with other tree service, driving, landscaping, and general labor duties as needed.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, route driving, logistics, or tree service.
- Previous experience with tree trimming, tree removal, stump grinding, brush cleanup, or related outdoor work is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience operating manual transmission trucks is preferred.
- Experience towing and maneuvering trailers, flatbeds, dump trailers, or other equipment trailers.
- Experience operating or working around wood chippers, stump grinders, chainsaws, loaders, or other tree-care equipment is a plus.
- Knowledge of truck loading, unloading, cargo securement, and safe manual-handling procedures.
- Strong understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations related to commercial driving and hazardous materials when applicable.
- Ability to safely work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Previous experience using GPS navigation systems for local and long-distance routes is preferred.
- Valid CDL with appropriate endorsements for the type of vehicle operated.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a tree service crew.
