WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
Are you looking to build a career with a company that values craftsmanship, quality, continuous improvement and has been recognized as a Global Top Employer for 11 consecutive years?
Join our team in Akron, where we proudly manufacture high‑quality tubing that supports critical applications across multiple business units. As an Extruder Operator, you’ll become a key player in an ISO‑certified facility that believes in teamwork, safety, and professional growth.
We’re looking for dependable, mechanically inclined individuals who are excited to grow with us—and who enjoy the challenge of precision manufacturing. If you take pride in producing high‑quality products and want to be part of a strong team environment, we’d love to meet you.
- Set up, operate, and adjust extrusion lines (extruders, dies, pins, screws, and downstream equipment) to produce tubing safely and efficiently to specification.
- Monitor product quality by performing routine inspections—checking size, clarity, gels, and surface conditions using calipers, gauges, and SPC tools—and adjusting as needed.
- Manage materials and equipment, including filling hoppers, securing tooling for upcoming runs, cleaning/returning equipment, and reporting any equipment issues or scrap.
- Complete documentation and labeling, such as production records, setup charts, quality checks, packaging labels, and any required ISO or 5S paperwork.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area while supporting team members, providing break coverage, and participating in continuous improvement and lean/WCM initiatives.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Available to work Second Shift (4:00PM – 12:00AM) or Third Shift (12:00 AM – 8:00 AM) because seniority determines shift preference.
- Starting Rate: $22.27/hour plus Shift Diff: $0.75/hour
- Mechanical Aptitude: The ability to understand, operate, and troubleshoot production machinery is critical for safe and efficient extrusion performance.
- Attention to Detail: Operators must monitor dimensions, identify imperfections, and catch quality issues quickly to maintain tight tolerances and reduce scrap.
- Problem-Solving Skills: When extrusion lines drift out of spec, an operator needs to diagnose issues—material, tooling, temperature, speed, equipment—and correct them swiftly.
- Strong Work Ethic & Reliability: Consistent attendance, timely setups, supporting team coverage, and keeping production flowing are vital on 2nd and 3rd shift operations.
- Communication & Teamwork: Sharing information with supervisors, collaborating during changeovers, giving breaks, and documenting production accurately all require clear communication.
- Adaptability & Flexibility: Extrusion conditions can change quickly (material variation, tooling issues, priority shifts), and operators need to adjust efficiently without losing focus.
- Situational Awareness: Operators must stay alert to equipment behavior, safety risks, line changes, and visual cues. This is essential in a role that involves hot materials, moving machinery, and quality checkpoints.
- Time Management: Balancing setups, quality checks, documentation, and production flow require strong prioritization skills, especially on 2nd/3rd shift where resources may be leaner.
- Accountability & Ownership: Operators who take pride in their line, their product quality, and their documentation tend to excel and support a strong manufacturing culture.
- Positive Attitude & Willingness to Learn: The best operators stay curious, ask questions, engage in continuous improvement and contribute to problem-solving rather than just reacting.
