Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic School Van Driver with a CDL Class C license and P & S endorsements to ensure safe, reliable transportation for students. Duties
- Safely operate school vans, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles in accordance with state and local laws, company policies, and safety standards.
- Assist students with boarding, disembarking, including wheelchair assistance when necessary, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Follow traffic laws diligently and respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies to maintain schedule integrity.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before each route.
- Maintain clear communication with dispatchers, school staff, and parents regarding transportation schedules or delays.
- Implement behavior management techniques to promote student discipline and ensure a calm, safe environment onboard.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations using emergency response procedures for transportation, including first aid or CPR when required.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class C license with P & S endorsements; experience driving school buses or transit vehicles is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency stop procedures.
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings is desirable; ability to manage student behavior effectively.
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for diverse communities.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment safely.
- Familiarity with child discipline policies, student safety protocols, and school policies related to transportation.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred; willingness to obtain if not already certified.
