Job purpose
The primary responsibilities of the Utilities Technician is to work as a mechanic with duties pertaining to the operation, installation, training, troubleshooting, and repairing of all plant boiler, utilities systems and equipment. This position is considered a Millwright and the qualified candidate should be capable of doing most jobs in the maintenance field with great skill.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintains and promotes company standards for safety, quality, food safety, sanitation and GMPs
- Understand basic applications of electrical and controls safety requirements within the maintenance department
- Responsible for all tasks associated with installing, operating, repairing, inspecting, testing and maintaining stationary equipment including boilers, other heating system, generators, refrigeration and turbines used in industrial manufacturing process as well as pumps, piping systems, valves, gauges, pressure relief devices, steam traps, boiler safeties, and control panel
- Performs preventative and predictive maintenance on boilers as well as their components to avoid problems before they occur including maintenance records and other routine paperwork, as required
- Conducts monitoring and failure analysis of meters, gauges, and controls to determine the need for repair or replacement of parts
- Troubleshoot steam systems (traps, valves, pumps, isolation), burners and natural gas systems, and equipment operation and sequencing
- Demonstrate ability to manage scheduled work list while supporting plant needs and utilizing time effectively. When assigned, will work with outside contractors and auditors to ensure and inspect work quality meets company and insurance expectations
- Understand where to find equipment documentation if needed (SOP’s, dwg’s, etc.) and how to contact external tech support as needed for after-hours scheduling and downtime scenarios
- Act as a training mentor in areas of expertise and will train less experienced maintenance personnel
- Willing to answer and respond to on call plant needs (24/7) to coordinate resources as needed and address emergency down time scenarios
