Software Test Engineer Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Software Test Engineer specializing in medical devices to join our dynamic quality assurance team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in software testing within the healthcare technology sector, demonstrating expertise in test automation, system validation, and compliance with regulatory standards. As a Software Test Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, executing, and maintaining comprehensive test plans to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of medical device software across various platforms, including mobile and embedded systems. Your role will be pivotal in supporting the development lifecycle by identifying issues early and ensuring adherence to industry standards such as ISO 13485 and FDA regulations.
Software Test Engineer Duties
- Develop detailed test plans, test cases, and scripts based on functional requirements, technical specifications, and user stories for medical device software applications.
- Execute manual and automated testing procedures across multiple platforms including Android, iOS, Windows, and embedded systems to validate system functionality and performance.
- Utilize testing tools such as TestNG, Selenium, JUnit, Cucumber, HP ALM, and Jenkins to automate regression tests and streamline testing workflows within CI/CD pipelines.
- Perform integration testing of APIs using RESTful services, SOAP web services, and database validation with MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PL/SQL to ensure data integrity and system interoperability.
- Conduct performance testing using LoadRunner or similar tools to evaluate system stability under various load conditions.
- Analyze defect reports using defect tracking tools like Jira or TFS; perform root cause analysis to identify underlying issues and collaborate with development teams for resolution.
- Participate in requirement gathering sessions with business analysts and stakeholders to clarify specifications; contribute to risk assessments and validation protocols aligned with regulatory standards.
- Support user acceptance testing (UAT) by preparing test environments, executing test cases, and documenting results; assist end-users during validation phases.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of test procedures, results, and defect logs; ensure traceability throughout the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).
- Collaborate within Agile teams practicing Scrum or Kanban methodologies; contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in QA processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field; advanced certifications are a plus.
- Proven experience in software quality assurance within the medical device industry or regulated healthcare environment.
- Strong proficiency in automation tools such as Selenium WebDriver, TestNG, JUnit, Cucumber (BDD), Jenkins, GitHub/GitLab for version control and CI/CD integration.
- Extensive knowledge of programming languages including Java, Python, C#, JavaScript; scripting skills for test automation are essential.
- Hands-on experience with mobile testing on Android and iOS platforms; familiarity with mobile applications development frameworks is preferred.
- Expertise in API testing using RESTful APIs with tools like Postman or SoapUI; understanding of web services protocols such as XML and JSON is required.
- Solid understanding of database management systems including MySQL, Oracle DB2 or Microsoft SQL Server; experience with JDBC or similar connectivity tools is advantageous.
- Knowledge of SDLC methodologies such as Agile (Scrum), Waterfall; experience supporting DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines is desirable.
- Strong analytical skills for data analysis and troubleshooting complex issues; ability to perform root cause analysis effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for documenting test results clearly and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
