Position Summary: YWCA Brooklyn seeks a part-time College Application/Admissions Consultant for its leadership and college access initiative which prepares participants for college success, community leadership and economic advancement. The program is designed to level the playing field for students from poverty-impacted communities through a comprehensive approach consisting of academic support, standardized test preparation, college application and admissions assistance, career exploration, civic engagement, and leadership development. The consultant works directly with program participants and their families to assist with college applications, financial aid, and scholarship resources. This position also supports participants throughout the college acceptance and enrollment process.
We are looking for a consultant who is available to work onsite with students during program hours: Monday through Thursday, 4pm-7pm.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one college advising for participants to ensure they have the information they need to attend a competitive college that aligns with their interests and academic focus.
- Assist participants individually with preparing their college applications, supporting documentation, recommendations, etc.
- Guide students and families through the financial aid application process, including FAFSA, TAP, CSS Profile, scholarship searches, and review of financial aid offers.
- Provide family support to ensure participants and their parents/guardians remain engaged, understand the application process and have all the information necessary to complete and submit college, financial aid, and scholarship applications on time.
- Ensure college related deadlines are met for all participants.
- Assist participants and their families in analyzing college acceptances, financial aid offers, and other factors and choosing a competitive college that best meets their needs and interests.
- Ensure participants make their final decisions and acceptances by May 1st.
- Assist with enrollment and course selection for college freshmen.
- Maintain database and participant files, ensuring timely and accurate record keeping.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 2-3 years of professional work experience in the college application/admissions/financial aid process, required
- Experience working as a college counselor, school leader, or working with students
- Demonstrate unequivocal passion for closing the achievement and opportunity gap
- Self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively in a group
- Excellent organization, time management, and exceptional follow-up skills; ability to prioritize
- Positive, professional demeanor; excellent judgment and discretion
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Technological proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Previous experience with CRM/database software, such as Apricot, preferred

Pay: $125.00 per hour
