Traveling Data Center Superintendent, Foreman, Journeyman Electrician, and Apprentice
Job Summary
Industrial Power Solutions, a Sundt Company, is seeking experienced Traveling Journeyman Electricians to support large-scale data center electrical construction projects across the United States. This position is ideal for electricians who take pride in high-quality workmanship, excel in high-volume conduit installation, and are willing to travel to some of the most demanding and rapidly growing data center projects in the country.
The Traveling Data Center Journeyman Electrician will install, maintain, test, and support electrical systems in accordance with project plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. This role requires strong commercial or industrial electrical construction experience, advanced conduit installation and bending skills, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced, highly coordinated data center environments.
This position requires extensive travel and extended project assignments. Candidates must be willing to work away from home for the duration of project assignments and adapt to varying project locations, schedules, and working conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain positive and professional working relationships with all members of the project team and crew.
- Produce high-quality electrical work safely, efficiently, and productively at all times.
- Install high volumes of PVC, Rigid, GRC, EMT, and other raceway systems in accordance with project requirements and company standards.
- Build clean, straight, properly supported conduit systems across large-scale data center facilities.
- Perform advanced conduit bending, including offsets, 90s, kicks, saddles, parallel bends, and complex conduit routing.
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, one-lines, drawings, specifications, BIM/VDC layouts, and field layouts.
- Install cable tray, supports, grounding and bonding systems, and electrical equipment.
- Pull and terminate conductors and assist with the installation and connection of electrical distribution equipment.
- Perform electrical installations in accordance with the NEC, project specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Work closely with Foremen, General Foremen, Superintendents, and other trades to coordinate installation activities and maintain project schedules.
- Operate aerial lifts, scissor lifts, forklifts, and other construction equipment safely and efficiently when qualified.
- Identify potential issues in the field and communicate them to project leadership before they impact safety, quality, or schedule.
- Support, mentor, and train apprentices and less experienced electricians.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly care for tools, equipment, and materials.
- Look for opportunities to improve work processes, means, and methods while remaining open to learning from others.
- Eliminate WASTE such as waiting, rework, unnecessary transportation, material storage, and inefficient use of time.
- Follow all project-specific safety, quality, housekeeping, and productivity requirements.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of electrical experience in commercial, industrial, data center, or heavy industrial construction.
- Previous data center or mission-critical electrical construction experience strongly preferred.
- Strong conduit installation and bending experience, including large quantities of conduit and complex routing.
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, specifications, one-lines, layouts, and installation details.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and standard electrical construction practices.
- Experience installing electrical equipment, cable tray, grounding systems, raceways, and conductors.
- Ability to work safely and productively at elevated heights and in active construction environments.
- Ability to effectively utilize trade tools, equipment, lifts, and other equipment relevant to the work.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a large project team.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively and work extended project assignments away from home.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be willing to work varying schedules, including overtime, weekends, and extended shifts when required by the project.
- Must be able to pass project-specific background, drug screening, and site access requirements where applicable.
Physical Requirements
- Work up to a 12-hour shift performing physically demanding electrical construction work in varying temperatures and indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel and wood framework, stairs, ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts.
- Lift, push, or pull objects up to 80 lbs. on an occasional basis.
- Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, and manipulate tools, materials, and equipment on a frequent basis.
- Work at elevated heights and in confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- Frequently reach above shoulder height and below the waist.
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
- Move throughout large construction sites and data center facilities for extended periods of time.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including steel-toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, high-visibility safety vest, fall protection, and other project-required PPE.
- Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
