Horizons at Dedham Country Day School (DCD) is an award-winning program that helps eradicate summer learning loss and the opportunity gap in the Greater Boston area. Modeled after the national Horizons Student Enrichment Program, Horizons’ intensive six-week summer program is designed to prevent summer decline in academic performance and close the opportunity gap. Position Summary
Horizons at DCD is seeking a dedicated and experienced STEAM Teacher with a dynamic talent for creating joyful, culturally responsive learning experiences for K-8 students. We are looking for a talented, passionate, and collaborative professional who will bring interdisciplinary creativity into the classroom, fulfill the Horizons mission, and help build an inclusive and inspiring educational culture across the program. The STEAM Teacher will work with a team of lead teachers and will be supported by the Assistant Director, Site Director, and Executive Director. It is our expectation that Horizons summer staff members work together, support our students, and help build community within the program.
This position also includes mentoring and collaborating with high school volunteer(s) who will design and co-facilitate original arts-integrated activities alongside you. We are looking for someone who is genuinely energized by supporting young people who are developing their voice as aspiring educators.
The position is seasonal part time during the six weeks of the program. The 2026 program will run from June 29th to August 7th. Hours of role are 8:15am–3:15pm Monday through Thursday, with the exception of Wednesdays which include an additional hour for our weekly staff meeting.
Mandatory Pre-Summer Orientation will take place on Saturday, June 13th.
Responsibilities
The STEAM Teacher will:
Design a vision for high quality, culturally competent, project-based STEAM and arts curriculum to engage K-8 students in learning throughout the six-week summer enrichment program
Implement and execute practices in a classroom environment that are structured, inclusive, and responsive to the wide range of ages, learning styles, and backgrounds represented in our student community
Integrate student-led arts activities into the weekly curriculum, ensuring they are scaffolded appropriately and connected to broader STEAM learning goals
Maintain attendance records, write/refine lesson plans, teach lessons, and provide evaluative feedback
Participate in daily meals with students, attend faculty meetings, and support other duties as required
Meet with your student volunteer team to review upcoming activity plans, offer specific and constructive feedback, and debrief co-facilitated sessions to support their growth as young educators
Attend all required training sessions prior to the start of the program
