Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment, ensuring high-quality images for accurate diagnosis.
- Assess patient vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to monitor overall health status.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health.
- Assist the dentist during procedures through chairside assisting, managing dental instruments and materials efficiently.
- Review and update medical records and electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems) with accurate documentation of patient care activities.
- Maintain infection prevention protocols by adhering to HIPAA regulations, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures to ensure patient safety.
- Support the use of dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for scheduling, billing, and record management.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories and coordinating care plans aligned with general dentistry practices.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare infection control standards and maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Dental Hygienist in a busy dental office or clinic environment.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Familiarity with dental equipment including X-ray machines, ultrasonic scalers, and other hygiene tools.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) management systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Experience working with pediatric dentistry is a plus; ability to handle pediatric patients with patience and care.
- Excellent communication skills for client education and team collaboration.
- Demonstrated understanding of infection prevention management, aseptic techniques, and healthcare safety standards such as HIPAA compliance.
