Job Summary
Join our dynamic team as a Step Deck Driver and take charge of transporting specialized freight with precision and professionalism. In this role, you will operate step deck trailers—also known as drop deck trailers—designed for carrying tall or oversized loads safely across various routes. Your expertise in commercial truck driving, combined with your knowledge of logistics cargo handling and safety regulations, will ensure timely deliveries while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance. Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers equipped with step deck (drop deck) trailers, ensuring adherence to all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight efficiently using manual handling techniques, forklifts, or other equipment as required, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit.
- Navigate routes accurately using GPS navigation systems, planning optimal paths to meet delivery schedules while considering road restrictions for oversized loads.
- Transport various types of freight, including refrigerated items, flatbed cargo, tanker loads, hazardous materials, and dangerous goods, following all safety protocols.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before and after each trip.
- Comply with all safety standards related to hazardous materials regulations and ensure proper documentation for load & unload procedures.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, cargo details, route information, and delivery confirmations in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, specifically with tractor-trailers such as dump trucks or roll-off trucks preferred.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements suitable for operating step deck trailers and transporting hazardous or refrigerated goods.
- Strong knowledge of manual transmission operation and manual handling techniques.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation tools and route planning for logistics cargo handling.
- Experience in driving different trailer types including flatbeds, tankers, refrigerated trailers, and specialized equipment like forklifts or dump trucks.
- Understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, hazardous materials regulations, and safety compliance requirements.
- Ability to load & unload freight efficiently while adhering to safety protocols for dangerous goods and heavy cargo.
- Excellent driving record demonstrating safe driving habits over time.
