We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and student-centered Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to provide school-based speech and language support under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).
The SLPA will assist with implementing speech and language services for students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), treatment plans, and the supervising SLP's direction. The SLPA will work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, families, administrators, and related service providers to support students' communication and participation in the school environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide speech and language therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed SLP.
- Implement treatment activities and strategies developed by the supervising SLP.
- Work with students individually or in small groups as directed by the supervising SLP.
- Support students working on articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, social communication, and functional communication skills.
- Follow student IEPs and the treatment plans established by the supervising SLP.
- Collect and record data regarding student performance and progress.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided.
- Communicate student progress and concerns to the supervising SLP.
- Assist the SLP with therapy materials, activities, screenings, and other appropriate tasks within the scope of the SLPA's role.
- Collaborate with teachers and school staff to support communication strategies throughout the school day.
- Support carryover of speech and language skills into classroom and school activities.
- Maintain student confidentiality and follow all school and district policies.
- Complete required documentation and service logs within established timelines.
- Attend meetings and participate in team collaboration as directed by the supervising SLP.
- Communicate professionally with school staff, students, families, and members of the educational team.
Qualifications
- Completion of an approved Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or equivalent qualifications required by the state.
- Current SLPA registration, license, certification, or authorization as required by the state.
- Ability to work under the supervision and direction of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.
- Experience working with children is preferred.
- School-based experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Dependable and able to manage responsibilities independently within the scope of the SLPA role.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet school and IEP-related deadlines.
School-Based Expectations
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant should understand that school-based services focus on helping students develop communication skills that support their ability to access and participate in their educational environment.
The SLPA is expected to:
- Follow student IEPs and the supervising SLP's treatment plans.
- Provide services only within the scope of the SLPA's role and applicable state regulations.
- Maintain consistent communication with the supervising SLP.
- Meet required service and documentation timelines.
- Maintain student confidentiality and privacy.
- Follow school safety procedures and district policies.
- Communicate promptly regarding student concerns, scheduling issues, absences, or changes that may affect service delivery.
Supervision & Collaboration
The SLPA will work under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. The supervising SLP will provide clinical direction, oversight, treatment planning, and support.
Technology & Documentation
The SLPA must be comfortable learning and using school-specific documentation and communication systems. Training and orientation will be provided on applicable school platforms and procedures.
