Road Laborer 1 or 2
Berlin Township – Full-Time | Wage range: $22.00 - $26.00/hour
Berlin Township is seeking a dependable, hardworking individual to join our Road Department as a Road Laborer (Level 1 or Level 2). This position plays a key role in maintaining the safety and quality of Township roads, bridges, culverts, facilities, and cemeteries. The ideal candidate is motivated, team‑oriented, and capable of performing a wide variety of outdoor maintenance tasks in all weather conditions while working as a member of a designated work crew. The Road Laborer reports to the Director of Roads, Facilities and Cemeteries or to any Board member or designee of the Board.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Operate light to medium equipment for road, bridge, and culvert maintenance (e.g., power saws, compactors, weed eaters).
- Perform manual labor such as patching roads, clearing debris, cutting brush/trees, and mixing/pouring concrete.
- Conduct traffic control (flagging) and transport tools/materials to job sites.
- Assist with general building, grounds, and equipment maintenance, including cleaning, mowing, and routine tool/equipment upkeep.
- Snow plowing
- Work irregular hours as needed, communicate professionally with staff/residents, and perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License with CDL endorsement and have an acceptable driving record.
- Must be available for work on short notice and outside scheduled work hours.
- Candidates must be able to pass all applicable pre-employment background checks and be insurable and under applicable Township policies
- Position placement (Level 1 or Level 2) will be determined based on the candidate’s years of relevant experience.

- Prior public service years accepted when computing vacation accruals.

- Sick Days: Three weeks of sick leave accrued at 4.62 hrs. per pay period.
- Prior public service accrued unused sick hours can be brought over.
- Max of 480 hours of sick leave may be accrued.
- State retirement pension.
- Pay periods are bi-weekly (26 pays per year).

All applicants who receive a conditional offer of employment are required to undergo a pre-employment background check and drug screening conducted by a designated vendor.
