Description
Position Summary: The prep cook is responsible for assisting the main cook in both hot and cold food preparation for their assigned kitchen area. Also assisting with the cook to make sure all food items are ready and set up in a timely manner. The prep cook’s goal is to plan and provide meals to plant workers on a daily basis, ensuring food purchased is fresh and prepared according to Jane Foods Standards and Recipes. The prep cook must ensure all health and safety and environmental health standards are achieved and maintained. The prep cook must be able to follow proper procedure for preparing all products (following standardized recipes and accurate quantities) for menu cycle items and restocking the serving line when necessary. This position is also responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the prep area including kitchen equipment that he or she uses. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary by location based on client requirements and business needs. In addition, the individual may perform other serviceable duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Cooks and prepare a variety of food according to healthcare guidelines and standardized recipes
- Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
- Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items
- Safely utilizes a variety of utensils including knifes
- Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
- Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meat, vegetables, and other foods
- Arranges, garnishes, and portions food according to established guidelines
- Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
- Maintains excellent customer service and positive attitude towards guest, customers, clients, co-workers, etc
- Follows all work and food safety rules and procedures
- Maintains professional conduct at all times
- Notifies manager of any quality or quantity issues/comments related to supplies
- Checks quality and quantity of food being prepare
- Restocks food lines during service times and prepare assigned food items as necessary:
- Breakfast speciality items as assigned by chef/manager
- Lunch items- salad bar items, chicken salad, tuna salad, fruit salad, etc.
- Prep cook is responsible for restocking and keeping line full and replenished during all service times; as well tear down of the lines, cleaning up line area, and restocking for next shift
- Cleans product space and prep area according health department standards
- Adheres to Jane Foods safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation
- Willing to attend such training sessions that are deemed necessary by line management.
- Washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, and keeping all kitchen equipment clean to Jane Foods Inc standards.
Skills & Specifications:
- At least 1 year experience as a cook cafeteria or food service setting is required
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision required
- Proven knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage
- Must be able to obtain food safety certification
- Demonstrates basic math and counting skills
- Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds
- Able to squat, bend, stoop, push, kneel, and reach
- Ability to sit, stand, & walk for prolonged periods
- Able to read, write, and effectively communicate
- Must pass pre-employment background and drug screening
- Typical Work week is Monday-Thursday 7am-1pm (Part time hours at 24 hours per week)
Pay: From $14.00 per hour
